What is a deload week?
A Deload week is simply a reduction in weekly training intensity. It doesn’t mean that you become lazy and stop working out. A Deload week comes in handy when you feel that you aren’t making any progress and your mind and body are fatigued. You can have your diet, training and sleep hygiene dialed in, and eventually still struggle with OVERTRAINING. This is when Deload week comes in.
The primary purpose of deloading is four fold:
1️⃣Alleviating “accumulated” central nervous system fatigue.
2️⃣Alleviating joint and ligament strain.
3️⃣Reducing the risk of injury
4️⃣Reducing psychological stress.
Here’s the bottom line:
A Deload week is an important component of long term progress and results. It prevents injury, overtraining, and General fatigue and burnout.
If you are not deloading currently, it probably means your workout is sub-optimal or you are battling with issues related to overtraining without even realizing it.
Incorporate deload week into your routine and you’ll feel better in your fitness journey.
